Post The Walking Dead
It's still stumbling along... getting closer and closer...

Just re-read The Calm Before, or book 7 for those of you not in the know.

And it certainly is calm, though you can see several storm fronts on the horizon. NOT the storm that suddenly blew in on the very last page, but still there's plenty of trouble ahoy.

Here's my current guess on who doesn't make it out of book 8:

Billy
Hershel
Patricia
Glen
Axel

It's just a guess, of course. Certainly didn't see Carol going the way she did. Can't say I'll miss her, but it was a bit of a shock.

I'm also guessing that book 8 will see them having to leave their prison home.

Any thoughts?

Still catching up on Fables (and still mostly reading DC Superhero type books), but I keep hearing enough good about Kirkman to check out his stuff if I start making more money soon.

Ordered and read the first 3 through work, and it's so awesome.

I'll be getting up to date within due time.

Got book 7 last week, re-read 6 as a kind of "Previously on The Walking Dead" refresher. Just thinking to comment on it now. I assume the spoiler button doesn't work any more, so I won't even try to use it.

********

Holy Panda Droppings.

I can't say I was surprised by Carol. Or the last page, the size of the storm maybe, but not that it happened. A very low death count for those 6 issues, and it kind of surprised me. Only 1 in the whole book, wasn't it? I thought Glen and Billy were goners in it.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Glen survives another book. Hell, I don't really see how any of them will be able to make it out of this alive. Rick pretty much has to live, I guess. I figure there's going to be a mass recasting in the next trade. 17 survivors as of the end of issue 7, I wouldn't be surprised to see it brought down to as few as 6, with 2 or 3 of them deciding to go their separate ways.

Wouldn't exactly be difficult to find out, I suppose, as I'm sure there's a few issues of it out already, but still. Can't wait to read it. Almost enough to buy issues instead of trades.

Almost.

In summary, if you're even remotely into zombies, survival stories, or the dissection of the human condition by comparing our wants and our needs in a post-apocalyptic environment... and you're not reading The Walking Dead... Start. Now.

Yes indeed. What I'm most curious about is how Kirkman will handle the attack. The Walking Dead could very easily set up so the entire trade would take up the 40 minute gun fight about to be unleashed. Or, it could go a more standard path.

No matter what happens, I'm guessing this is it for the prison and the aftermath will be the survivors heading back out on the road. Meaner, angrier, and more paranoid than they already are.

If the book continues to be successful, it would be interesting to see the story shift to Carl and for Rick to become expendible. Of course, Kirkman could surprise us all. Maybe Rick won't walk away from this one.

OH MY!

More to come, once I know more people have read it.
